The Adaptive Recreation Program provides an opportunity for physical activity, emotional release, social involvement and creative expression for those with disabilities. The City of Whittier offers a diversified program for persons of all ages and with various disabilities living in the City of Whittier and surrounding cities. This program helps participants develop a positive self-image and feelings of individual worth. This program encourages participants to develop healthy and continuing relationships. Activities increase physical condition and coordination. Therapeutics also helps to improve the morale and quality of family living by helping each individual become more independent. It provides resources to participants and family members who are looking for activities and organizations available in the City.
Game Night (previously Tuesday nights) will take a break in August 2019, and will resume on Wednesday nights (2nd and 4th weeks) at the Senior Center, 13225 Walnut St., Whittier, in September 2019. Friday night dances will also resume in September 2019, on the first and third Fridays, at the Senior Center.

New Frontier Players
A drama class for those aged 15 years and older who are developmentally disabled. Class is offered in ten-week sessions, culminating in a one-act play. Acting and technical skills are taught. Classes are at the Uptown Whittier Senior Center (13225 Walnut St. Whittier, Ca 90602).

A program for those 15 years and older who have developmental disabilities that offers social activities.
Game night is held the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at the Whittier Senior Center from 6:30-8:30pm. Game Night runs between September and June.

Special Arts Program
An art class for those 15 years of age and older who have developmental disabilities. This class gives an opportunity for participants to mold, fold, and be bold with your creativity through different kinds of art. Friday Night Dances
Rock n’ Roll, Disco, Hip-Hop and Oldies! Bi-monthly dances for those 15 years and older who have developmental disabilities. Come dance to your favorite tunes the first and third Fridays of each month from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Uptown Whittier Senior Center (13225 Walnut St. Whittier, Ca 90602).

Trips are opportunities for those who are 15 years and older with a developmental disabilities to go out and fun in the community. Sporting events, amusement parks, museums, fairs, and much more. Fees vary with trips.
A Weekly sports program for those 8 years of age and older with a developmental disability.

Whittier Club of the Deaf
A monthly social and educational program for those 18 years of age and older who are hard of hearing or deaf. Club meets the First Friday of each month. 6:30pm - 10:00pm at Parnell Park.
