2026–2027 Social Services Grant Applications Now Open
The City of Whittier Social Services Commission is now accepting applications from eligible nonprofit organizations that provide social services to the Whittier community for the 2026–2027 Social Services Grant Funding Program.
The Social Services Commission was established by the Whittier City Council to study and make recommendations regarding the social service needs of the community. The City Council’s philosophy is to utilize City of Whittier funds to support nonprofit agencies that provide much-needed services and resources to the Whittier community.
Funding Available
A total of $200,000 is available for the 2026–2027 grant cycle. Agencies may be awarded up to $20,000 based on the program’s banded scoring system.
Eligible funding requests may include program operations and capital expenses. All awarded funds must be used directly for the project or program identified in the application. Redistribution or regranting of funds to individuals, other organizations, or initiatives is prohibited.

Application Deadline: Monday, September 28, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
Only applications received by the deadline will be considered.
Mandatory Pre-Submission Meeting
All applicant agencies are required to attend the mandatory pre-submission meeting:

The meeting will provide applicants with information regarding the grant program, application requirements, and funding process.
Application Requirements
- Only one application per agency may be submitted.
- Applicant agencies must have a current 501(c)3 or 501(c)6 status and be in good standing.
- Applicant agencies must attend the mandatory pre-submission meeting.
- Agencies that address mental health services to diverse populations—including, but not limited to, veterans, immigrants (with an emphasis on immigration-related trauma), youth and families, seniors, and individuals experiencing housing insecurity—may be eligible to receive additional points. Applicants should describe the scope of their mental health services, populations served, accessibility of services, and strategies used to reduce barriers to care.
- All attachments must be labeled with the agency name and document name.
- Unless requested by City staff, additional materials submitted but not required as part of the application will not be considered or returned.
- All awarded funds must be used directly for the project or program identified in the proposal. Redistribution or regranting of funds to individuals, other organizations, or initiatives is prohibited.
- Eligible funding requests may include operations and capital expenses.
- Proposed projects must be completed by June 30, 2027.
Eligibility & Selection Process
The Whittier Social Services Commission will review all submitted applications to determine eligibility and evaluate funding requests in accordance with the program guidelines and scoring criteria.
Following its review, the Commission will make recommendations regarding selected agencies and funding amounts. These recommendations will be forwarded to the Whittier City Council for final review and approval.
Agencies receiving grant funding may also be required to provide a presentation or program update at a future Social Services Commission meeting.
