The Whittier Social Services Commission invites applications for funding from local non-profit organizations that provide needed social services for City of Whittier residents for the 2018-19 fiscal year.
Applications and an informational letter are available and may be obtained by calling the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department at 562-567-9400; or in person at the Department office at Whittier City Hall, 13230 Penn Street.
All groups applying for funding must supply proof of non-profit status – either 501 (c)3 or 501 (c)6 approval – with the application.
Examples of social services programs which may be eligible of grant funding include employment assistance, crime prevention, child care and education, health services, drug abuse, recreational needs and other services that primarily assist low to moderate income residents, including abused children, battered spouses, senior citizens, those with disabilities, and homeless persons.
The Whittier Social Services Commission will review all applications to determine eligibility. The Commission’s recommendations regarding funding will be forwarded to the City Council for final approval. Agencies that receive funding may be required to make presentations at Commission meetings. Agencies submit applications for funding, which are reviewed by the Commission. They in turn make recommendations for agencies and funding amounts for the Whittier City Council’s review and approval.
