DESCRIPTION:<p data-start="80" data-end="303">&nbsp;</p><p data-start="80" data-end="303">&nbsp;</p><p data-start="80" data-end="303">Whittier residents have the opportunity to become prepared, informed, and ready to help during emergencies through upcoming Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training hosted by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.</p><p data-start="305" data-end="525">CERT training equips community members with essential emergency preparedness and disaster response skills that can make a critical difference when professional help may be delayed following a major emergency or disaster.</p><p data-start="527" data-end="577">Participants will receive hands-on instruction in:</p><ul data-start="578" data-end="746">    <li data-section-id="2sih38" data-start="578" data-end="595"> Basic first aid </li>    <li data-section-id="1wxgwn1" data-start="596" data-end="630"> Fire extinguisher safety and use </li>    <li data-section-id="1lqv5l7" data-start="631" data-end="661"> Disaster response techniques </li>    <li data-section-id="1r2m37z" data-start="662" data-end="686"> Emergency preparedness </li>    <li data-section-id="1xe2957" data-start="687" data-end="746"> Supporting neighbors and the community during emergencies </li></ul><p data-start="748" data-end="896">The training is free and open to individuals ages 16 and older.
